About

I am an artist and writer originally from the Pacific Northwest. I’ve lived all over the country and in Mexico for a few months, but I returned to Oregon in the fall of 2019.  Oregon is known by artists far and wide for its particular light and I’m delighted to be home again where that light informs all my work.

I’ve long been drawn to abstract expressionist art and that’s where I spend my time these days.  I believe that “Color is an animal that wags its own tail” and that my love for jazz informs my work as much as the color.

In my posts here, I’ll showcase new paintings and also write about the process and my own philosophy as a painter who dabbled and yearned for years while busy with the rest of my life.  I hope the joy of finally making time to go to art school and to eventually follow the passion will come through.

I was fortunate to find wonderful teachers (Maine College of Art and elsewhere) and to find Art & Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking by David Bayles and Ted Orland, Oregon artists and writers.

  1. Marcia – I think of you often and still want to “do lunch”…We’ll make it happen!

  2. Hi, Molly…..’twas good to run into you at Lib. Stn. that time. Hope all’s going well and that “new interest” is happening the way it should. Maybe someday we’ll manage to “do lunch” like the world seems to like to do……or not. Anyway, keep happy!
